Melfort Fire Dept. responds to grain elevator fire

Melfort Fire and Rescue spent nearly two hours at a local area grain elevator Thursday night.

Fire crews were initially called out around 7:45 p.m.

The source of the fire would turn out to be some grain was smouldering in a pipe.

Firefighters worked with elevator staff worked to unplug the pipe that was approximately 40 feet high.

Two firefighters then climbed to the top of the grain dryer to spray water down the pipe.

Crews also worked at the top and bottom of the pipe to clear it. Eventually the pipe was cleared and water was sprayed down the pipe to extinguish any remaining fire. 

There were no injuries reported.
