Fall beef producer meetings met with cautious optimism

The recent snowfall is good news for cattle producers in Saskatchewan.

The Saskatchewan Cattleman’s Association’s (SCA) annual fall beef district meetings wrapped up this week and CEO Ryder Lee said one of the concerns raised was the need for moisture this winter.

“Aside from if you get north of Unity where it was a pretty decent moisture year, much of the rest of the province dried up in June and everybody is just concerned with what we are going to get for moisture this winter and in the spring, and all we can do with that is wait and see,” he said.

Lee said the general feeling, though, amongst producers is positive. Calf prices, which typically dwindle off this time of year, have actually gone up instead.
