May 28, 2013 | 11:21 AM

Sixty-three producer-led agriculture research projects in Saskatchewan are receiving funding this year as part of the Agriculture Demonstration of Practices and Technologies (ADOPT) program.

Funding of more than $600,000 was announced Tuesday for the program by Federal Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz and Saskatchewan Agriculture Minister Lyle Stewart.

The program provides funding to producer groups to evaluate and demonstrate new agriculture practices and technologies at the local level.

The projects this year include cattle breeding, crop-protection products, trials of new crop varieties and seeding techniques.

Among the recipients is the Conservation Learning Centre. The research farm located south of Prince Albert is receiving over $62,000 for eight projects which include comparing the effects of fungicides to disease levels on wheat, field peas and lentils; testing the optimal seeding rate for wheat and examining forage corn varieties.

The Northeast Agriculture Research Foundation in Melfort has received nearly $49,000 for seven projects. The Northern Fringe Marketing Club and District No. 32 ADD Board was approved for investigating agronomic benefits of foliar-applied nutrients in canola and cereals.
