Nov 13, 2017 | 9:13 AM

Hockey fans in Nipawin were treated to a real barn burner Sunday night at the Centennial Arena.

The Hawks took on the Estevan Bruins and came out on top 5-4 after a goal in the first minute of overtime.

Nipawin opened the scoring at the 6:18 mark of the first period on a shot from Carter Doerksen.  Brandan Arnold and Josh McDougall provided the assists.

Arnold would pick up his second point of the night, scoring the Hawks’ second goal at the 15:54 mark.

Within the following three minutes, the Bruins would respond with three goals of their own.

The score would remain unchanged throughout the second period.

Nipawin then tied the game three minutes into the third off a shot from Austin Mikesch. Gage Misskey provided the go-ahead goal 15 minutes later with assists from Thomas Lenchyshyn and Jordan Simoneau.

Estevan was not finished though, tying the game less than 90 seconds later.

At the end of regulation, the game was deadlocked 4-4.

Anxious Hawks fans did not have to wait long to celebrate as Kenzie Arnold scored the game-winning goal, just 34 seconds into overtime.  Carter Doerksen and Chad McCartney were credited with the assists.

Kenzie Arnold was named the game’s first star.  The second star went to Estevan’s Hayden Guilderseon who had one goal and one assist.  Hawks’ forward Brandan Arnold was named the third.

The Hawks are back in action Friday night, hosting the Flin Flon Bombers.
