Melfort Chamber of Commerce hosts ‘State of the City’ luncheon

Nov 16, 2017 | 12:20 PM

Melfort residents are invited to join the Chamber of Commerce at a luncheon Tuesday featuring a message from the mayor.

The ‘State of the City’ is not an annual event but with budget shortfalls and more challenges ahead in 2018, Chamber director Nicole Gagne said it was warranted.

“I think it’s a good time to look back to see what they accomplished with the reductions and what their plans are for 2018,” she said.

While the Chamber works to promote business, Gagne said this event caters to a wider crowd.

“If you are interested in politics, if you are interested in your city, [or] want to learn more about what’s going on; come,” Gagne said.

She said the response has been positive, even with business picking up for the Christmas season. The Chamber wanted to work the event into their schedule ahead of the civic budget discussions.

“The city is going to be busy. It’s our way of wrapping up 2017 and giving the city a chance to address the crowd,” Gagne said.

The lunch begins at 11:45 a.m. at the Canalta Hotel. Gagne said the deadline to register is Friday at 5 p.m.
