Tisdale company filling bus void

Dec 1, 2017 | 3:00 PM

Rural areas were hit the hardest when the Saskatchewan Transportation Company (STC) was shut down by the province.

Charlie’s Charters in Tisdale is filling a gap for people in the area needing to get to Saskatoon and don’t have other options. Driver Chris Musselman said he’s been making the trips twice a week for a couple months. He said it’s more about giving back to the region than making money.

“We just wanted to help out the community to get out to Saskatoon for medical appointments or to visit family with STC shutting down recently,” Musselman told northeastNOW.

He said word is starting to spread helped by the Christmas season and road conditions. Musselman makes trips on Tuesday and Thursday every week. They leave to arrive at the earliest needed to for a passenger and leave when all their clients needs are met. He said the runs are helpful to older citizens.

“We’ve been taking a lot of seniors in that don’t drive anymore and have lots of medical appointments or family in the city,” he said.

Musselman uses a 14-passenger van to make the treks, but does have full size buses at his disposal through Charlie’s Charter’s owned by his father. He said the $84.00 one-way trip and $126.00 same day round trip doesn’t make much profit. Musselman said that’s not why the company began this venture.

“This is more to help the community,” he said.

If you need transportation from the area you contact Musselman. The van also makes stops in Melfort and Wakaw.
