Hawks move veteran forward

Dec 1, 2017 | 3:57 PM

The Nipawin Hawks made a significant move Friday trading veteran centreman Keillan Olson and rookie right-winger Bryson Cecconi.

Coming back to Nipawin from the Kindersley Klippers is Christian Bosa, a third-round draft pick in this summer’s Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League draft plus future considerations.

General Manager Doug Johnson said making a move of this magnitude isn’t easy.

“It was a very tough trade to make. Keillan is a great player and a phenomenal young man while Bryson has been everything you want in a young player,” Johnson said.

Olson played 76 games for the Hawks. The Calgary product scored 19 goals and added 39 assists. Cecconi has three goals in 10 games this season. Bosa has one point in seven games with the Klippers. Johnson said the trade will help both teams in the long run.

“At the end of the day we had some areas we wanted to fill and with this trade we were able to check one of the boxes off,” he said.

The Hawks also announced goaltender Declan Hobbs has been called up to the Western Hockey League’s Spokane Chiefs.

Nipawin is in Melfort Friday to meet the Mustangs.
