Hawks hot play continues

Dec 6, 2017 | 1:39 AM

The Nipawin Hawks scored on their first two shots on goal versus Flin Flon soaring to a 5-1 win Tuesday at the Centennial Arena.

The victory extends Nipawin’s point streak to nine games, the club now sits one point back of Melfort for the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League’s top spot.

Daven Smith opened the scoring just under three minutes into the game. Jake Tremblay made it 2-0 Nipawin before the four-minute mark. Michael Grant scored twice in the second period extending the Hawks’ lead to 4-0.

Early in the third period, Christian Bosa scored his first of the season in his Nipawin debut. He said their game plan wasn’t complicated.

“We battled hard, played a simple game, laid the body, and got a good result,” Bosa said.

Flin Flon’s Calvon Boots ruined Jake Anthony’s shut-out bid late in the third period capping the scoring. Bosa said playing with the early lead helps.

“We just have to keep our composure, don’t get into any bad habits, keep playing our game for three periods,” he said.

Anthony finished with 23 saves in his eighth win, while Colten Lancaster made 29 stops in the loss for the Bombers.

Bosa was acquired from the Kindersley Klippers Dec. 2. The 19-year-old said getting his first goal of the year felt great.

“It felt really good, I couldn’t find the back of the net in Kindersley, so it was nice to score in my first game here,” he said.

The Hawks are back in action Friday at home versus Melville, they visit the Millionaires Saturday.
