Hoenmans hoping for MLA candidacy

Jan 22, 2018 | 7:39 AM

Tim Hoenmans wants to take his political career to the next level.

The Melfort resident is currently serving his first term as a city councillor and worked on the late Kevin Phillips’ last re-election campaign. Hoenmans is one of four  vying to be the Saskatchewan Party nomination in the upcoming byelection. He said the region has plenty of positives.

“I really want to see this constituency succeed and I want to be a part of unlocking opportunities here,” he told northeastNOW.

Hoenmans is currently working for the Saskatchewan Assessment Management Agency. He has also worked in mines in Northern Canada. He said he considers the Melfort region home.

“There’s so much promise in this constituency it’s just incredible. Being fortunate enough to be born and raised here, you see it and want to be a part of it,” Hoenmans said.

Louise Schweitzer, Scott Lessmeister and Todd Goudy are the three other candidates. A nomination meeting will be held Wednesday at the Kerry Vickar Centre.

No date for the byelection has been set. The candidates expect the writ to be dropped in late February.
