North Stars sting Mustangs

The Battlefords North Stars opened a lead over Melfort Wednesday night in Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League action, and the Mustangs could never recover.

Melfort was able to close the gap to one goal in the second period but eventually dropped a 7-3 decision leading to the team’s second loss in a row. Levi Kleiboer, Chaseton Braid and Cole Johnson all scored for the North Stars in the first period taking a 3-0 lead at the Northern Lights Palace.

Johnson scored again early in the second period before Tristen Elder, Colin Schmidt and Reed Gunville answered for the Mustangs closing the gap to 4-3 after 40 minutes of play. Gunville added a pair of assists in the second period as well.

The North Stars took over in the third period discouraging any Mustang’s comeback, MacGregor Sinclair, Keith Anderson and Johnson hit the score sheet in the third capping the scoring.
