SYDNEY, Australia — Canada’s men’s rugby sevens team dropped out of Cup contention at the HSBC Sydney World Series after three straight losses in pool play.

Canada, ranked seventh in the world, ended its Pool D schedule with a 40-19 defeat against the No. 12 United States on Saturday.

Perry Baker led the American side with four tries. Harry Jones, John Moonlight and Jacob Thiel scored tries for Canada.

The Canadians are out of the running for the main Cup trophy but will play Samoa on Sunday in the Challenge quarter-final. The best Canada can place is ninth.
