Melfort political representatives react to Moe election

If Todd Goudy becomes the MLA for the Melfort constituency, he said he’s looking forward to working with Scott Moe.

Goudy became the Saskatchewan Party nominee for an upcoming byelection in the riding on Jan. 24. Moe was voted in as the new premier Jan. 27 in Saskatoon by party members. Goudy attended the leadership convention and said he’s optimistic about the opportunity to work with Brad Wall’s replacement.

“I think Moe is a very approachable, down home country-boy loved by most people. That’s the type of person I’d like to serve under,” Goudy told northeastNOW.

Melfort’s mayor is also optimistic with the results from the convention. Rick Lang said he’s interacted with Moe at several conferences and meetings over the years. Lang said the Rosthern – Shellbrook MLA has leadership qualities.

“He always listened carefully to what people have to say and he always does his best to make the right decision and to act accordingly,” Lang said.

Moe won the leadership race with 8,075 votes or 53.87 per cent edging Alanna Koch by over 1,100 votes. Saskatoon Willowgrove MLA Ken Cheveldayoff, Saskatoon Northwest MLA Gord Wyant and Regina University MLA Tina Beaudry-Mellor were also in the running. Lang said the voters spoke and hopefully the best candidate was successful.

“He got the votes at the conference, so you have to look at it and say the best person won,” Lang said.
