Melfort Chamber director resigns

Feb 2, 2018 | 2:23 PM

The Melfort and District Chamber of Commerce needs a new executive director.

After nearly seven years in the position, Nicole Gagne has stepped down to pursue another opportunity. She said working in the Melfort region has been a rewarding experience.

“I want to thank the businesses of Melfort for letting me represent them. There are some exceptional business people in Melfort with some great minds,” Gagne told northeastNOW.

Gagne is the lone paid staff member during the winter months, the Chamber also operates the tourism office in the summer and hires a student to help in the busy season. The board is currently without a president. Gagne could not speak regarding the hiring of her replacement. She did say the region’s business community will continue to thrive.

“If the businesses and community support each other they can do great things,” Gagne said.

Darryl Benson owns Melfort Transmission Clinic and has sat on the Chamber board for the last year. He said he’s disappointed a new director needs to be hired.

“I appreciate what Nicole has done. I thought she did a respectable job. I am sorry to see her leave; I was looking forward to working more with her,” Benson said.

Gagne’s last day is today, Feb. 2.
