Trojans ready for playoffs

Feb 7, 2018 | 11:00 AM

The Tisdale Trojans are in the home stretch of their regular season and looking to repeat last year’s success.

The team had a solid playoffs run, barely losing out to the Regina Pat Canadians in the final. Trojans Head Coach Darrell Mann said he is quite confident in his team’s ability.

“We feel as if our team has been getting better as the weeks go on and we want to make sure we are playing our best hockey come playoff time,” he said.

The Trojans are sitting in a far more comfortable place, when compared to last season. The team is fourth overall with two points ahead of the Swift Current Legionnaires even though Swift Current has a game-in-hand. Last year at this time the Trojans were battling for a playoff spot. Mann said the main challenge for his team this season has been consistency.

“You know we’ve had a 10 game winning streak, an eight game winning streak, and then we’ve gone on to a situation where we’ve won one and lost one,” he said.

The team’s overall health is also on Mann’s mind. They’ve got five players out and less than three weeks until playoffs begin. Mann said his team is fully aware they will likely play Swift Current in the first round.

“They’re a team we’ve played four times and had problems with but that’s kind of our focus now, getting better and getting ourselves prepared to play Swift Current,” Mann said.

The Trojans have six games left in their regular season schedule. They travel to Yorkton tonight to face the RawTec Maulers. The pucks drops at 8 p.m.
