With RCMP town hall meetings happening across the province, the Melfort detachment is expanding on the initiative and will host an open forum throughout the whole day Thursday.
Members of the Melfort RCMP will speak about topics such as the police force's Internet Child Exploration (ICE) unit, marketing fraud and police dog services. The event will also include a K-9 demonstration. Staff Sgt. Deon Marquis said the mass-marketing fraud prevention discussion, which is scheduled for 3:15 p.m., is important for Melfort’s demographic.
“It’s important to get this information out there, so we’re hoping that is widely attended,” Marquis said.
Cpl. Jared Clarke of the ICE unit will speak twice, with his presentation is geared towards youth in grades 7-9. Parents are encouraged to attend.
The town hall portion of the meeting is scheduled to run from 5 to 6:15 p.m., to give the public a chance to ask the local members any questions they may have.
The event will be held at the Kerry Vickar Centre March 22.
