The Nipawin Hawks are off to a good start in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) playoffs, and so are a couple of their players.

Josh McDougall, 19, was named defenseman of the week on Monday. The Prince Albert product collected an assist in a 5-1 win in game one over the Flin Flon Bombers, then added a goal and two more assists in Saturday’s 3-1 win over Flin Flon.

Nipawin netminder Declan Hobbs was the winning goaltender in both games, and was named the goalie of the week for his efforts. Hobbs, who was previously awarded the SJHL’s regular season goaltender of the year award, stopped 51 of the 53 shots he faced over the first two games of the Hawks’ best-of-seven quarter-final series against the Bombers.

The Hawks lead the series 2-0, and game three is slated for 6:30 p.m.
