Construction on Tisdale skate park to begin soon

After years of fundraising and planning, construction is nearly set to begin on Tisdale’s new skate park.

Raelene Franklin, who co-chaired the fundraising efforts for the grassroots project along with the Tisdale Kinettes, said the service club recognized the community’s need for an updated park back in 2014.

“We had just a little thrown-together skate park here in town, and the equipment was not up to par and it was falling apart,” Franklin said. “There was just nowhere for the kids to go and safely skateboard or bike or scooter or anything like that.”

After many steak and lobster nights, and other fundraisers, Franklin said the group ordered materials to begin the first phase of the project. Franklin said the first phase will cost roughly $150,000. A second phase, costing roughly $35,000 will follow to expand the park further once the funds become available.
