Hawks head to Steinbach with backs against the wall

May 4, 2018 | 9:48 PM

After their 2-1 loss in Game 5 to the Steinbach Pistons, the Nipawin Hawks will now have to win both remaining games of the ANAVET Cup series to advance to the RBC Cup national championships.

Both games are in enemy territory as well. Game 6 will be on Monday, and if the Hawks prevail in that, Game 7 is slated for Tuesday in Steinbach. Both games are scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m. Saskatchewan time. For the Pistons with their 3-2 series lead, they just have to win one of those games to be crowned ANAVET Cup champions.

Brandan Arnold scored in the first period 17 minutes of the game to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead. That’s Arnold’s sixth goal and 11th point in the first five games of the series.

Arnold’s goal held up until four minutes into the third period, when Pistons’ forward Drew Worrad scored his third ANAVET Cup goal to tie the game.
