Fire destroys barn in Star City area

A barn was destroyed in a fire Wednesday night in the Rural Municipality of Star City.
Melfort Fire and Rescue responded to the fire shortly after 9 p.m. The fire initially started out as a controlled burn on the farmland, but the flames spread to the structure.
The firefighters were on the scene for roughly an hour and were able to extinguish both the barn fire and brush fire. The property owners were asked by firefighters to keep an eye on the building and area overnight and to call 911 if there were any further issues.
There are a number of fire bans in place across central and northeast Saskatchewan. Property owners are encouraged to use extreme caution when conducting controlled burns and to notify their local fire department first.
