P.E.I. latest province to offer people, funding to N.B. flood relief

CHARLOTTETOWN — Prince Edward Island is offering help to people affected by record-breaking flooding in New Brunswick.

Premier Wade MacLauchlan says the provincial government will donate $25,000 to the Canadian Red Cross relief efforts.

MacLauchlan says Red Cross volunteers from the province have arranged emergency shelter for nearly 300 people displaced by flooding.

He says more Island volunteers are prepared to go if needed.

Also, PEI Liquor retail stores across the province are accepting donations to support the relief efforts, and people can donate online at the Red Cross website.

The gesture comes a day after Nova Scotia Premier Stephen McNeil announced the province is donating $100,000 to the Canadian Red Cross, as well as providing about six provincial staff to assist with cleanup efforts.
