Smeaton fire department hosting open house Sunday

Jun 16, 2018 | 5:00 PM

The Smeaton and District Fire Rescue is giving the public a chance to learn more about their work at an annual open house Sunday.

The volunteer fire department is hosting the event from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Smeaton fire hall. The event will include a barbecue and fire trucks and equipment will be on display for the public to see.

The open house will also act as a fundraiser for the Saskatchewan Fire Service Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) Team. Crystal Fajt is with the team and said funds raised at this year’s event will go toward training and expenses for people in locations across the province.

“We’re a peer support but we are training in critical incident stress management and watching for signs if people need to be referred on to professionals,” Fajt told northeastNOW. “We do it every year and we open the fire hall and we bring all the equipment and trucks out so that the taxpayers can see where their money is going. “
