The man who led the Melfort Mustangs on the ice last season, will continue to play hockey during his post secondary studies.

Andrew Thompson, 21, signed a deal to play for the Selkirk College Saints next season in Castlegar, B.C.

“It offered a lot of great programs that will benefit me in my future and it also has a great organizzation there, he said.

The Lethbridge native played for the Humboldt Broncos during his rookie season, before making his way to the Mustangs for the start of the 2016-2017 season. He played in 55 games for the Mustangs last season and scored 17 goals with 10 assists. Thompson admitted it is tough saying goodbye to the Mustangs.

“They had a great organization there and I really love the two years I did get to play there and it definitely helped me grow as a player to pursue the next level,” he said.

Thompson said he did have a couple of other other offers, but felt Selkirk offered the courses he wanted. Thompson said he plans to pursue studies in the trades, and aims to one day become an electrician.
