Melfort Public Library challenges children to explore the city

Jul 16, 2018 | 2:00 PM

Exploration is the theme for the Melfort Public Library’s summer reading club program this year, and that means exploring the community.

The library has organized a unique scavenger hunt, producing a brochure featuring 10 challenges to explore in Melfort. If kids up to age 14 can finish all of them, they can bring it back and claim a prize.

Penny Markland, Wapiti Branch librarian in Melfort, said there needs to be evidence of a challenge being completed, whether it’s a picture of a location posted to their Facebook page or bringing an object back to the library as proof. While exploring is the theme for the program this year, Markland said the library still emphasizes reading and kids can enter their name into a draw for every eight books read at the end of the summer.

Other Wapiti branch libraries will also be hosting the program this summer.
