Nipawin Exhibition wraps up for the 90th time

Organizers and spectators were able to pick the fruits of the labour over the year-long planning of the Nipawin Exhibtion.

The 90th instalment saw the return of entertainment on the open stage for the first time since 1989, along with rides, games, chariot races, and animals. The event began on June 16 and today was its final day.

Deb Lacheur, president of the Nipawin Exhibition Association, told northeastNOW the gate attendance was good, although her staff haven’t been able to promote the milestone 90th exhibition too much after they adopted some added duties.

“We had to do the parade and help with the family day downtown,” Lacheur said. “Add a few new things to an already stretched, tight crew and we haven’t done a lot of promoting outside of advertising, but it’s the way it goes.”

Lacheur said the exhibition makes an impact on Nipawin’s economy, as it brings a great number of people to town as spectators, exhibitors, and people participating in the events.

Even though this fair is over, planning for number 91 will soon start on Monday, July 23.

“So many people think we meet the last month or so before the fair and the last month after, and it’s not true,” Lacheur said. “I never gave it a moment of thought who gave it (the fair) to me when I was a kid, but until you’re in the planning process you really have no idea what it takes”

Lacheur said the association is always looking for new members, and encourages young people to join.
