Derailment site cleared but heavy rain sees further suspension of service

VIA rail says the site of the derailment north of Hudson Bay last week is cleared and repaired, although their service through north central Manitoba remains suspended due to heavy rains elsewhere.

Heat warning in effect for Northeast Saskatchewan

Environment Canada put a heat warning in effect for Northeast Saskatchewan Friday, covering an area which includes Melfort, Nipawin, and Tisdale.

Maximum daily temperatures are expected to reach 29 degrees until July 7, with high-20s lingering into next week.

Cooler, wetter weather in the North is expected to help wildfire crews get a handle on the 63 new fire starts that have occurred in the past five days.

Southend wildfire threat diminishes as officials prep for evacuees' return

Repatriation of hundreds of people back to the northern community of Southend has begun after the Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation rescinded its general evacuation order late Monday.

Wildfire burns near McArthur River mine as province hit by thousands of lightning strikes

Lightning, coupled with very dry conditions, has produced nineteen new wildfires in the province. One of those strikes sparked a significant blaze near the McArthur River uranium mine site.

After a hot, dry spring we're now in for more record-breaking temperatures this week as we officially enter summer.

The temperatures are expected to be up to 12 degrees hotter than normal for this time of year and a heat warning is in effect for the La Ronge area.
