Family fun Friday night in Nipawin

Dec 4, 2018 | 3:00 PM

A fun event to kick off the Christmas season.

Nipawin Winter Lights are on display at the Regional Park, starting on Friday.

The event used to be the Parade of Lights, but is now at the Regional Park for the fifth straight year.

“The Nipawin Winter Lights is going for three nights again this year,” organizer Susan Westgard said. “Businesses and non-profit groups have volunteered to set up sites at the regional park, and it starts this Friday, Dec. 7, from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.”

Westgard said a number of local businesses and organizations are part of the event.

“Pineland Co-op has volunteered to help us with that night so they’re hosting, they will be there to greet you when you enter, they’re down at the bonfire and weiner roast,” Westgard said. “There’s also going to be sleigh rides, hot chocolate… and a visit from Santa Claus.”

Westgard said the event will be held for another two evenings.

“(Nipawin Winter Lights) continues on next Friday as well, Dec. 14, from 6 p.m. to 9:30,” she said. “That night, Diamond North Credit Union, the Nipawin Exhibition, and the Nipawin Chamber of Commerce are volunteering to host.”

The following Friday’s hosts will be the Nipawin Get er’ Done Rodeo and the Atom Blackhawks hockey team.

Admission is free, but Westgard said donations are accepted as you exit the park.

That money will go to non-profit groups that volunteer and help over the three nights.
