Kosior keeps rolling, Trojans dominate Maulers

The Tisdale Trojans offence exploded once again on Wednesday, Jan. 30 as they took on the Yorkton Maulers at Farrell Agencies Arena in Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League action.

After a 7-1 win against the Notre Dame Argos on Sunday, Jan. 27, the Trojans managed to put more pucks in the net in a 9-2 win over the Maulers.

Things got going early for the Trojans as Yorkton native Colby Vranai bit his hometown team just over a minute into the game on a hard-working wraparound. Tisdale continued their dominance through the frame as they spent copious amounts of time in the Mauler end. The Trojans made it 2-0 on a powerplay when Mackenzie Carson notched his fifth of the season. That’s how things stayed the rest of the period as Tisdale continued to control play. They outshot Yorkton 18-5 in the period.

Tisdale really opened things up in the second period as Jeremy Hancock made it 3-0, followed by back-to-back powerplay goals from Landon Kosior who continued his dominating stretch in the game with three points just over 26 minutes into the hockey game as it was 5-0. Kosior now sits seventh in league scoring as a defenceman and has 26 points in his last 14 contests, including four goals in his last three. Jayden Wiens got in on the fun as he scored with just over seven minutes to play in the second period to make it 6-0. Dylan Ashe scored with just over a minute to play in the frame, and it was 7-0 after 40 minutes. Tisdale continued their dominance on the score clock as well, only allowing four shots in the period (nine in total). Tisdale fired 35 shots to that point.

Yorkton was able to come back somewhat in the third period as they came out with some fire, throwing the body and not giving the Trojans anything easy. However, the Trojans made it 8-0 when Blake Samida banged home a pass that came to his back door just 37 seconds into the period. Troy Bryksa broke the Bryson Garton shutout with just under 17 minutes to play in the third when he beat the Trojan netminder with a nice shot from the wing. Liam Rutten answered back for the Trojans about four minutes later as he got a nice pass in front for a one-timer to make it 9-1. Carter Dereniwsky scored late for Yorkton to make it 9-2, but that is as close as they would get as Tisdale won their third game in a row, Final shots ended up 52-17 for Tisdale.

The win moves the Trojans to 29-5-3-1 on the season, four points ahead of the second place Saskatoon Blazers with the Blazers holding one game in hand. Tisdale is back in action on Feb. 5 as they host the Saskatoon Contacts.
