Calgary’s Cavalry FC has added German midfielder Julian Buescher to its Canadian Premier League roster.

The former German under-16 and under-18 international was drafted 11th overall by D.C. United in the 2016 MLS SuperDraft out of Syracuse University.

Buescher, signed to a Generation Adidas contract, saw action in 20 MLS games in 2016 and seven in 2017, with one goal and four assists. He spent the 2018 season with Los Angeles Galaxy II, starting 17 of 21 games, before parting ways last August.

“Julian’s signing is a coup for us,” Cavalry FC coach and GM Tommy Wheeldon Jr. said in a statement. “He’s a former German youth international who’s had great experience this side of the water in the MLS.

“He’s the type of central midfielder that has a great engine to get around the pitch, is tactically astute and likes to get on the ball and break lines with his passes and forward runs.”

The CPL is slated to kick off its inaugural season April 27.
