Winnipeg transit rejects signage in memory of driver killed on job

Winnipeg Transit drivers have been told they cannot display messages on their buses in memory of a colleague murdered on the job two years ago.

Transit officials issued a memo to drivers this morning to not display the “RIP #521” message on the electronic signs on buses.

The sign is a reference to the badge number of Irvine Fraser, who was stabbed to death by a passenger on Feb. 14, 2017.

The head of the bus drivers’ union, Aleem Chaudhary, says there was no explanation given and his members are surprised because the signs were permitted on the same day last year.
