Spray park, fully accessible playground are new additions for Spruce Haven Recreation area

The newest phase of the Spruce Haven Park recreation area in Melfort will get underway soon with opening set for this summer if all goes according to plan.

The installation of a spray park and fully accessible playground will begin this spring.

City Manager Ryan Danberg said this is an exciting addition for the area located on the east side of the city.

“This is the 2019 component part of it and it will certainly add a new element to the Spruce Haven park,” Danberg said. “It will compliment the ball park, compliment the soccer pitches and already existing skate park.”

The skate park opened last summer.

Work on the 3,000 square foot spray park and 2,800 square foot playground is part of the city’s plan to develop the Spruce Haven Recreation area. Work has been ongoing since 2016.

“Both projects kick up at the same time and both are to be in a timely manner completed,” Danberg said.

Some landscape work will follow before the official opening of the area according to Danberg.

“If all goes as planned, we will have usage near the end of August,” he said.
