The latest project for Northeast Outreach and Support Services (NEOSS) is nearing completion.

According to Executive Director Louise Schweitzer, NEOSS’ new second stage housing unit in Melfort should be ready sooner rather than later.

“We are very very close to being finalized,” Schweitzer told northeastNOW. “We were just waiting for a few things to get put in. So, we’re hoping that sometime this week we will be able to be handed the keys from our project manager and from there we will be looking at filling the facility with furniture and then doing a rent-up. Our goal is May 1, we will have renters in our facility.”

Schweitzer said they haven’t started searching for renters yet, but their plan is to start looking once they get the keys to the building. The four-plex consists of two, two-bedroom units, and two, four-bedroom units. Schweitzer said the four-bedroom units would be able to house a family of nine, if needed.

“It’s going to allow us as a facility with our domestic violence shelter, to be able to move those individuals with sometimes the larger families, out a little faster,” she said. “And helping them and assisting them to become self-sufficient and successful.”

Funds for the project came from NEOSS’ Capital Campaign that went from 2013 to 2016. Schweitzer said that it was also a next step for them.

She said they also have some grants coming in to help furnish the complex.
