Nipawin man accused of sexual interference has case adjourned

Apr 10, 2019 | 12:44 PM

A Nipawin man charged with three counts of sexual interference toward youth has had his case adjourned.

Glenn Smith was represented by Trent Forsyth in Nipawin Provincial Court Wednesday. Forsyth told Judge Albert Lavoie he received further information in the case, but hasn’t had a chance to review it.

Smith is accused of sexual interference involving three separate victims under the age of 16 between Jan. 1, 2010 and Dec. 31, 2014. Smith was granted bail in Melfort Provincial Court on March 7, under various conditions including no contact with the alleged victims in the case or anyone under aged 16, a curfew from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m., and that he not go anywhere children may be, such as schools, playgrounds or public pools.

The names of three alleged victims in the case cannot be published.

Crown prosecutors have previously said they would prosecute the case by indictment, which carries a more serious penalty. The minimum punishment for those convicted of sexual interference under Canada’s Criminal Code is one year in jail.

Smith is scheduled to appear in Nipawin Provincial Court again on May. 1.
