Melfort Chamber building sold to City of Melfort

The Chamber of Commerce building in Melfort has a new owner.

After attempts the sell the building that sits on the corner of Shadd Drive and Spruce Haven Road, the Melfort Chamber decided to sell it to the City of Melfort.

Brent Lutz, director of community planning, and community relations said the city saw value in the property, and decided to make an offer.

“The city submitted a proposal to purchase the building from them,” Lutz told northeastNOW. “There was some benefits in retaining the building on its site as some of the utility services for [Spruce Haven] Park are rooted through that building. By acquiring the building it saved us the cost of constructing a new structure, a distribution shed on site.”

Now that the city owns the building, Lutz said they don’t have another use for it yet, but said there’s future potential.

“There certainly is an opportunity in the future should a good use come up for the building,” he said. “We would see that as an added benefit for the city.”

Lutz said repairs are on the horizon as they plan to remove some mini-golf items.

Chamber spokespeople declined to comment on the sale outside of a news release. The release stated the profits from the sale will “retire the outstanding debt.”

“Following financial reorganization, the chamber will be calling a membership meeting to determine the future direction of the Chamber of Commerce,” the release said.
