Case for woman charged in Nipawin assaults adjourned for show cause hearing

A 28-year-old woman accused of three assaults in Nipawin had her case adjourned for a show cause hearing.

Carline Bear appeared in Nipawin Provincial Court on Wednesday, May 1 to face her charges which include robbery with a firearm, aggravated assault, theft of a motor vehicle, and break and enter. Bear was arrested by RCMP officers early on April 13, 2019 when they responded to three assaults within the Town of Nipawin.

Loree Richardson, a defence lawyer for Legal Aid Saskatchewan, asked Judge Inez Cardinal for the case to be adjourned so the defence could receive a bail verification report, to which Cardinal agreed.

Bear will appear in Tisdale Provincial Court on Tuesday, May 7 for a bail hearing and will remain in police custody until then.

Similar charges were sworn for Bear’s co-accused on the file: Nathaniel Roderick Crate, 24, and Garrett Scott “Smiley” McCallum, 27.

Nipawin RCMP told northeastNOW Crate appeared in Melfort Provincial Court on April 30 and will appear in Nipawin court later for show cause hearing on May 15. An arrest warrant is still out for McCallum.
