Big Macs & McNuggets: Construction begins on Melfort McDonalds

May 2, 2019 | 10:54 AM

Construction has finally begun at the McDonald’s site at the Stonegate Shopping Centre in Melfort.

According to the City of Melfort’s Director of Development, Planning and Community Relations, Brent Lutz, permits have been issued, and the work has been assigned. Currently, there has been some excavation done on the site, and it has been fenced off.

Lutz said while they don’t have a specific timeline for the project, they don’t expect it to take long.

“Well, we don’t have a timeline from the builder, or from McDonald’s themselves,” Lutz told northeastNOW. “Other than, one can find similar projects certainly don’t take a long period of time for them to get from the commencement stage to completion. Literally months.”

Lutz believes the restaurant coming to Melfort will not only draw customers from the town, but the whole Northeast.

“I think we’ll also see some traffic generated from people throughout the region that will take the opportunity to sample their fare,” he said. “And certainly any traffic that is brought to the community will rub off on some of the other commercial businesses in town.”

McDonald’s joins Tim Hortons, Canadian Tire, Marks Work Wearhouse, and the Canalta Hotel in the Stonegate Shopping Centre.

“We’re expecting that it’ll draw not only the attention of the travelling public,” Lutz said. “But it also draws the attention of other businesses who want to associate themselves with businesses that do bring that traffic in.”

Other than Prince Albert, Humboldt is the only local city with a McDonald’s.
