Carrot River Valley MLA looking for nomination for fourth election

Saskatchewan Party members in the Carrot River Valley riding will have an option when choosing who they want as their representative in the upcoming provincial election in 2020.

The current Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) in the area, Fred Bradshaw is looking for the nomination to represent the Sask. Party for his fourth election.

Bradshaw was originally nominated in 2005, and won his first election in the riding in 2007. He also won elections in 2011 and 2016. Bradshaw said that in his time as MLA, the riding has received half a billion dollars in government money for various projects.

One of Bradshaw’s big priorities as MLA just recently got some funding.

“Highway 55, which has been one of my things right from square one,” Bradshaw told northeastNOW. “I wanted to see Highway 55 so we could have primary weight on it. Finally just got around to making the announcement about three weeks ago on Highway 55.”

Some other projects that have been completed under Bradshaw’s leadership has been the new Cumberland College in Nipawin, a new school in Hudson Bay, a primary care home in Tisdale, and some funding to fix up Highway 255 up to Tobin Lake, among other projects.

Bradshaw believes he’s done a good job as MLA, and wants to run for another term. However this time around, there is an opponent for the nomination and Bradshaw said every election he’s got to work for a win.

“In politics, lets face it, there’s no such thing as job security,” he said. “Every four years people have a chance to nominate somebody else to run for the party, and of course every four years you have to put your credentials together to go out and win an election again.”

He said his time in the legislature should be a big credential for him.

“I have the experience, I know my way around the legislature,” Bradshaw said. “And I believe I’ve worked very hard for the constituents of Carrot River Valley, and Carrot River Valley has actually done quite well I believe with myself being in there as the representative.”

Bradshaw added he’s always been available to the constituents to hear their concerns.

The nomination meeting takes place June 20 in Arborfield. Bradshaw’s opponent is Terry Youzwa.
