‘Money well spent’: Humboldt Peavy Mart unveils renovations

May 10, 2019 | 2:37 PM

After more than a year of renovations, the Humboldt Peavy Mart has officially unveiled its new and improved store.

The store has undergone some work after the old store was becoming a little bit dated. They held a Grand Re-Opening of sorts on Friday, May 10 to celebrate the occasion. Senior Vice President of Store Operations David Simmons said it’s an exciting day for Peavy Mart.

“There’s a long tradition in Humboldt,” Simmons told northeastNOW. “We’ve been part of the community for 50 years, and there’s lots of roots.”

The store got almost a complete makeover, costing “several million dollars” according to Simmons. The renovations included adding LED lighting, making the building more environmentally friendly, paving the lot and yard, re-painting, and even adding a new piece to the store. The old Peavy Mart still remains but another large section has been added (pictured below).

Simmons said it was “money well spent”.

“It’s important to make a commitment to the customers in the community,” he said. “They’ve supported us for years, decades, long before I was here. It’s exciting to think about the future for us here.”

Simmons added not only is it a better and new experience for shoppers, but it is a better environment for employees too because the old building was very tight, and tired.

Humboldt’s Mayor, Rob Muench was in attendance for the ‘wire cutting’, and said the expanded store is another reason for citizens to shop local.

“We’re moving forward as a city,” Muench said. “It’s nice when people and merchants and retailers show that confidence in our community to expand or move here and want to start up.”

Muench called it a ‘win-win situation’ as it keeps money in the community.
