Rain Is A Good Thing

Plenty of rain expected to fall over the northeast throughout today

After what was a very dry month of April, the rain has finally seemed to arrive in the middle of May.

Some rain fell in the northeast region last week, and now the big rainfall has arrived.

According to Mike Russo, a meteorologist with Environment Canada, 10 to 20 millimeters is expected to fall over the next 18 to 36 hours. He said the rain is a result of a disruption that came from the southwest section of the province.

“It looks like maybe areas over the extreme northern portions of the grain belt towards Nipawin could see the highest amount,” Russo told northeastNOW.

While some rain is a welcome sight for farmers and other people in the region, too heavy of a rainfall could be a bad thing. However, Russo said that shouldn’t be a concern this time around.

As for the future forecast, Russo said the long weekend looks bright.

“The next seven days, up until early next week, we are looking at generally little to no precipitation,” he said.

However, while the sun will be out, Russo added temperatures may not be as high as usual with expected highs between 13 and 15 degrees Celsius. Monday is expected to be better with a high of about 20 C.

Meanwhile, a farmer from the Beatty area told farmnewsNOW there hasn’t been much rain yet, but seeding has been halted due to the wet conditions.

“We haven’t got a lot yet,” Mike Spratt said. “We’ll be going in pretty short order if we don’t get anymore. It looks like a little more rain in the forecast here.”
