Nipawin Assaults Case

Two accused in Nipawin assaults set for election and bail hearing

May 23, 2019 | 2:02 PM

A man and woman accused in three Nipawin assaults will appear in Saskatchewan Provincial Court on the same day.

Twenty-eight-year-old Carline Bear will have defence election in Nipawin court on May 29 after being previously denied bail, while 24-year-old Nathaniel Roderick Crate will appear in Nipawin via video on the same day for bail hearing.

Crate appeared in Melfort Provincial Court on May 23 where his defence lawyer Todd Parlee requested an updated bail verification report, as Crate could potentially have a new address.

Crate’s charges include theft, robbery with firearm, aggravated assault, assault with weapon, obstructing a peace officer, and possession of a break-in instrument, while Bear faces similar charges along with theft of a motor vehicle and break and enter.

The charges stem from an early morning incident in April where police responded to three assaults within Nipawin.

RCMP said two of the assaults took place at the same residence hours apart from one another, while a third incident occurred at a different location. All three are believed to involve the same suspects.

Nipawin RCMP said an arrest warrant is still out for the third co-accused on the file: 27-year-old Garrett Scott McCallum.
