Tisdale to host seventh annual Walk a Mile in Her Shoes

May 27, 2019 | 8:43 AM

Northeast Outreach and Support Services (NEOSS) is holding their seventh annual Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event on Tuesday, May 28 in Tisdale.

It’s the first time that Tisdale has hosted the event, and NEOSS Executive Director Louise Schweitzer said the plan to bring it to Tisdale began last year.

“Tisdale approached us actually at last years Walk a Mile, and wanted to bring it to Tisdale,” Schweitzer told northeastNOW. “So, they formed their committee and they’ve organized it and are running it on our behalf.”

The annual event in the northeast region has men walking a mile in red high heels. Schweitzer said it’s a great event to be able to start a conversation about an issue that is tough for people to talk about.

“It allows a venue for people to talk about it, to create awareness,” she said. “And to make a public statement against domestic, gender, and sexualized violence in our communities.”

Over 100 walkers are already registered, and people can register up until walk day. The walk will be taking place at the Tisdale Town Square at 5 p.m., and there will be a barbecue before, during, and after the walk according to Schweitzer.
