Tisdale ready to rock the square

Jun 3, 2019 | 2:43 PM

Plans for the Tisdale and District Chamber of Commerce’s parade and Rockin’ the Square concert can now be finalized. Council approved a routine request of street closures for the summertime event.

The parade will take place on July 4 from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. and the music concert at the Tisdale Town Square will start at 5 p.m. on July 5.

Brad Hvidston, Tisdale’s chief administrative officer said the annual events generate a lot of interest from out of town visitors. In previous years, 1,200 tickets have been sold for the concert alone.

“There’s a lot of good economic spinoff that comes from these events as far as people staying in hotel rooms, eating at the restaurants, shopping downtown and filling up with gas on their way out,” Hvidston said.

Prior to the Rockin’ the Square concert, the Tisdale chamber will host a street fair from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Executive Director Niki Harpham said there will be activities for kids and local businesses will have sidewalk sales.

“Our whole goal is to get the community involved,” Harpham said. “Get revenue in for the businesses with the street fair and the goal of the concert… any proceeds will be going towards a fund that local groups can apply for towards different fundraisers for the betterment of Tisdale. We just want to give back to the community.”

The Rockin’ the Square committee will decide who is eligible for the funds that are raised from the concert.

Two local talents – the Tycke Brothers and Llewellyn Moss will open the show. Canadian rock singer Lee Aaron and ‘80’s rock band Platinum Blonde will be headlining the concert. Harpham said Moss will return to the stage following the headliners to keep the party going.

Anyone interested in putting a float in the parade or purchase tickets can do so through the chamber office.
