Community comes together to paint Melfort grandstands

The grandstands at the Melfort exhibition grounds have a fresh new look ahead of the summer season.

The Prairie North Coop’s (PNC) Communities in Full Color program and numerous community volunteers re-painted the grandstands located on the southside of Melfort on Monday.

Les Shearer with the Coop told NortheastNOW that the Agriculture Society members are pleased with the job done.

“We used about 330 litres of paint and they are quite happy with how it came together,” Shearer said. “Everybody just came and pitched in and it was just so good.”

The Ag Society made an application to the Co-op’s program that awards paint to a non-profit project in the service area.

Along with the PNC, contributions are made to the program each year from Federated Co-op and Sherwin Williams.

“We have the ability to pull out about $3,000 every year so it really turns out great,” Shearer said.

Around 27 volunteers came out for the day that began at 9 a.m. and wrapped up by about 4 p.m.

“Everyone said that we weren’t going to get done but I had it in my mind that we would be done by 3:30 or 4 p.m. and by then we were cooking hamburgers,” Shearer said.

Shearer gave a special mention to Tremblay Construction, Heavin Seeds, Co-op management, Ag Society members and the general public that lent a hand at painting.
