Melfort Kinsmen to host ATV rally on Father’s Day weekend

The Melfort Kinsmen will host its second annual ATV rally on Saturday.

After a very successful first year last year that saw around 225 riders, the kinsmen are going ahead with this year’s edition of the ATV rally.

Committee Chair Derek Erickson told northeastNOW it looks to be a great weekend on the trails.

“It’s for the whole family to run through the forest. There are some great trails here and we are taking a few days to just check them out and make sure they are good to go for the weekend,” Erickson said.

The 50-mile ride takes place following registration at 10 a.m.

“It’s all gonna take place at our home base which is on Main Street in front of the Gronlid Bears Den and we are going to head out into the bush from there,” Erickson said.

All riders are expected to be in 4:30 p.m., when prizes will be drawn for back at the starting point. There are cash prizes as well as a pellet smoker, a used ATV and more.

The Kinette club of Melfort will host a pancake breakfast in the morning as well and the St. Brieux Kinsmen will be selling hotdogs on the halfway point of the ride.

The lack of rain has made for some great conditions on the trails.

The funds from the rally will go toward the facilities the Kinsmen use at the Melfort Agriculture Society.

Both the Kinsmen and Kinette groups break for the summer time aside from running the food booth at the Melfort fair. Both clubs resume in September and are always looking for new members.
