LeRoy playground to benefit from Co-op Community Spaces

Since 2015, Federated Co-ops Limited (FCL) has helped out 114 projects in Western Canada with its Community Spaces program, and now LeRoy School is one beneficiary for 2019.

FCL along with Midway Co-op donated $150,000 to the LeRoy playground to replace aging equipment. Midway Co-op General Manager Nick Koroluk said it’s nice to see LeRoy getting some assistance.

“So 2019, there just happened to be 817 applications filled out and sent in,” Koroluk told northeastNOW. “LeRoy just happened to be one of the lucky ones to get chosen.”

For a project to receive a donation, their application is reviewed and $2 million is handed out each year. For LeRoy, Koroluk said this project is very important for the area.

“Well the LeRoy playground is pretty wore out already, and it’s pretty old,” he said. “The new structure is going to be really good and it’s going to serve all types of kids.”

The project is set to be brand new built from the ground up, helping the only playground in the community by making it accessible as well.

In a release, the educational assistant or LeRoy School, Alicia Richels said it’s great to see for LeRoy.

“The stars aligned for us. Thank you Co-op from the administration, the community, and our kids this is a dream come true,” she said.

According to Koroluk, a committee is already in the process of being created and the hope is that the new playground will be ready to go for the 2019/2020 school year.

A presentation is to be held on Monday to celebrate the donation in LeRoy.
