Beatty man charged after police pursuit

A 24-year-old man from Beatty, Sask. has been charged after an incident on Sunday, June 16.

Shortly before 8 a.m., Melfort RCMP received reports of a dangerous driver in the east end of Melfort knock over street signs. At the time, the area was busy due to a fastpitch tournament.

Officers located the vehicle speeding and attempted a traffic stop. The vehicle then sped onto Highway 3 toward Prince Albert where it was seen driving at 150 km/h. Other officers joined the pursuit and the suspect vehicle became useless after driving into a field. The driver and lone occupant was arrested without incident.

Justin Umperville was charged with impaired driving, theft of a motor vehicle, break and enter, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, flight from police, mischief under $5,000, theft under $5,000, and driving while prohibited.
