Water disruptions for Wynyard as town flushes water mains

Jun 28, 2019 | 12:00 PM

The town of Wynyard will need to cut back on water use this Sunday as water mains are being flushed.

From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., town crews will be working to flush the system to create a higher velocity to remove accumulated sediment from the lines. Crews will also open up fire hydrants to ensure they are working properly.

In a release, Chief Administrative Officer Jason Chorneyko said residents may notice water is discoloured during the flushing process.

“Do not wash your laundry during or immediately after the flushing,” Chorneyko said. “The water may become discoloured during the flushing and may stain your clothing.”

The water will not be a health hazard, but residents may want to collect drinking and cooking water as a precaution as well.

Once the flushing is complete, residents are also asked to run water until it becomes clear again.
