The Melfort Mustangs have made a trade, just one month before fall camp is set to begin.

On Tuesday, July 30, the Mustangs announced they acquired 1999-born forward Deklan Whillans from the Camrose Kodiaks in the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL).

Whillans, from Grand Prairie, Alta is listed at 6’2.5″, and was acquired by the Kodiaks early last season from the Sherwood Park Crusaders. He also spent time with the Spruce Grove Saints in the 2016/2017 season. In 84 regular season AJHL games, Whillans tallied four goals and seven assists for 11 points. His career high was the eight points in 37 games last year with Camrose. Whillans has also played in 11 playoff games over his career, scoring one goal.

“Deklan is a big, strong power forward who will help our group,” Melfort Mustangs Head Coach and General Manager Trevor Blevins said. “He is very well respected by previous coaches and teammates and we’re proud to have him.”
