Nipawin Show and Shine

Nipawin Living Forestry Museum hosting first Show and Shine

Aug 20, 2019 | 5:34 PM

The Nipawin Living Forestry Museum is giving the green light for a new event to its summer repertoire.

For the first time in its existence, the museum will host a Show and Shine car show, flea market, and numerous vendors on its grounds.

Doug McGirr works for the Nipawin Living Forestry Museum when it’s open during the summer. He said their typical big event is on July 1 where they have all their museum equipment operational, such as their saw mill and steam engine.

“We wanted to add to that this year and try to attract more people to our museum,” McGirr said. “We’ll have a couple of our museum cars out, a 1920 Maxwell and a Model T, and I have a 1957 BMW Isetta. There are several other cars from around town and hopefully from Carrot River and surrounding areas.”

McGirr said Show and Shines used to be common occurrences for Nipawin residents, although he feels they’ve been neglected for the last number of years.

“We have a lot of car enthusiasts but they don’t have a real car club,” he said. “We’d like to invite everyone from Nipawin and all the surrounding area. Whoever has a vehicle, bring it down to the museum, show it off a little bit, and meet your buddies that have the same interests in the cars.”

Keeping the pure, car-admiring spirit is important for the museum, so there won’t be any judging or first place ribbons when it’s time to pop the hoods. Although McGirr said there’s a grand prize of a collectible mirror to be won via draw for anyone who shows off their vehicles.

The Show and Shine will take place on Sunday, Aug. 25 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Nipawin Living Forestry Museum’s grounds.
