Melfort RCMP investigate release of “noxious substance”
A noxious substance was intentionally released Friday at a civic facility, according to the Melfort and District Fire Department.
At approximately 4:59 p.m., fire fighters responded to the facility in the 100 block of Crawford Ave. W. to assist facility staff with ventilating the structure. Crews managed to establish positive pressure ventilation to clear the air within the structure. There were no injuries as a result of this incident. The department said in an online post police were investigating.
In a separate incident earlier in the afternoon, the Melfort Fire Department responded to a reported electrical fire on the Exhibition Grounds.
Upon arrival crews found the fire to be in a small metal enclosure located on the grassy lot E of the Exhibition main entrance. The fire had darkened tree branches which had grown up around the enclosure. A CO2 extinguisher was used to extinguish the fire. It was determined that this enclosure was an old SaskTel pedestal left over from this area’s previous use as a mobile home park. Damage was limited to the cables in the pedestal.
