Culture days committee looking for volunteers

Culture days takes place around the province on Sept. 28 and the Melfort event committee has a big day planned.

From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Kerry Vickar Centre, booths for artisans, activities, and food from a wide range of cultures will be set up.

Committee member Shannon Marshall said they are looking for some volunteers to help make the event a success.

“If you don’t want to work a full 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., you can just come in the morning for set-up,” Marshall said. “If you have extra time in the afternoon, really anything you can lend us, is fantastic.”

Marshall said anyone that is willing and able is encouraged to lend a hand.

“More the adult age. Kids could help with a few different things but they are going to want to enjoy the displays and stuff,” Marshall said. “Probably young adults and anyone enthusiastic about coming.”

Volunteers would be on hand just in case the vendors need a break from their tables or displays throughout the day.

“It’s just a lot of crowd control but you really just get to enjoy most of the day by volunteering,” Marshall said.

Call Marshall at the Northern Lights Palace Pool at 306.752.7200 or email pool@melfort.ca.

“I volunteered last year and absolutely loved it and wound up on the committee, I loved it so much,” Marshall said.

Marshall told northeastNOW that the event has been happening in the city for a few years and grows each year.

New to the weekend this year is a coffee house at the Melfort Historic Post Office on Friday, Sept. 27.
